Nay Pyi Taw, 6 August 2025 — The Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), under the Ministry of Energy, officially signed production-sharing contracts with HNA Myanmar Oil & Gas Ltd for two onshore blocks: IOR-4 (Pyay) Area-1 and IOR-6 (Myanaung) Area-3. The signing ceremony took place yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister for Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, addressed the event, emphasizing the strategic importance of the energy sector in driving national economic development. He reiterated that one of the four key objectives of the National Defence and Security Council is to ensure sustainable growth in agriculture and agro-based industries, which are vital to improving the socioeconomic conditions of the people.
The minister also highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand electricity access, particularly to support fertilizer production and industrial growth. He noted that agriculture is closely linked to oil and gas exploration, and the ministry is actively collaborating with ethnic business stakeholders across 10 blocks under production-sharing agreements. One such block, approved in October 2024, is already producing natural gas that is being utilized for local electricity generation.
The Pyay and Myanaung oil fields, situated in the resource-rich Pyay embayment basin, are believed to hold substantial potential. With the application of modern exploration techniques and advanced drilling technologies, these fields could yield significant benefits for the nation.
